Outreach For Kids

Birthday Fairy

The children served by Outreach for Kids are in the custody of the State and are in foster care, in individual or group homes.

Their situations are managed on a day to day basis by the Service Coordinators of Managed Treatment Services (MTS), a subdivision of the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS).

As a state agency, MTS cannot ask for help for these children from the public. Their hands are tied as far as what they are able to do for the children, as they are constrained severely by the state budget.

We are all volunteers and have virtually no overhead. Virtually every dime we raise goes directly to help these children. We are a 401 (c)(3) non-profit organization and your donations are tax deductible.

  • BIRTHDAY FAIRIES: Since the Fall of 2006, we have been making sure that all of the children in this program get a birthday cake and a gift card for a special birthday gift. Since we started, we have provided cakes and gifts for OVER #?? (waiting for good number from Marret) children. Sadly, more cases are coming in every single day and the numbers are up to over 300 at this point.
  • HOLIDAY FAIRIES: The caseworkers start working months before the holidays trying to find a way to provide gifts in response to the holiday wish lists prepared by the children. It is a monumental task and they need your help!
  • TOOTH FAIRIES (ORTHODONTIA): Dental coverage for these children is typically through Medicaid, which does not pay for orthodontia. We all know how "bad teeth" can mark a person for life. We are trying to raise funds to pay for orthodontia for the many children who need it, and to find Orthodontists who will donate all or part of their services for this worthy and life changing project.

Every dime we raise goes to these children. We are all volunteers and we have no overhead. Every dime you contribute is tax deductible.

It is so simple - Be a Birthday Fairy, a Holiday Fairy or a Tooth Fairy! Give a smile and sense of self worth to a child who has been removed from their family and placed in foster care or a group home. For many of these children, this is the only recognition they will get of their “special day”.

Perhaps you would like to have a party and ask your guests to bring birthday gift cards to the party for the children. Perhaps your office would like to collect money or gift cards as part of a holiday party. Some families interested in what is being done for the children have chosen to give gift cards for the children to each other this year in lieu of presents to each other or have adopted a child’s wish list.
